Vedapark update, approaching take off

Now, we have had 3 meetings with the many people interested. At the meeting 30. October we were 17 participants. We had a dialogue on the background of the project and also reached important clarifications.

It was the wish to proceed constructing 7+ cottages on the 4 'cost-free' lots. We plan a common house (30 sqm) with kitchen, toilet and bath for these cottages. They should be finished at August 2012. - Also among the 17 participants there are about six who seriously consider to build a larger house on a purchased lot.

There is a consensus to donate 15% of the sales price to the Vedapark Association, when lots or houses are sold. This is to prevent speculation in real estate in our project. Furthermore the 15% is buyers entrance ticket to the common facilities, such as the meditation hall. There is the possibility to obtain further co-financing from the EU-Leader program etc., and from sponsors.

There is a special task for the women who have a particular talent, to communicate our plans and visions to our neighbors in the existing, separate section of the village. It is important that they understand what we want to do, so that we can cooperate on recreating the beautiful nature eg. around the creek where there was a wetland many years ago.

Gardening can be started next spring, on 100-200+ sqm of land. Before the winter we have to cover the grass - then the field will be ready for Vedic gardening next year. Four participants are interested in this, and we have found a competent advisor.

We are pleased with the development of the project, where we proceed step by step, because there are so many different factors to consider. The project seems to move forward by is own force. We think it is because of the need for what we are doing, and the concept is in balance with the growing, holistic consciousness of our time.

With the progress of our EU-Leader project, we have the planning in place, and we can begin building.

Build on a cost-free lot
In order to get started as soon as possible, we now offer you the possibility to build on 4 lots at 'Ormvråksvägen' - and have your house there as long as you live, without paying any rent for the lot. Later it is possible for your heirs to take over the rent on a long-term basis.

We think it is best to start with about 8 small houses of 15 sqm on lots: 87, 88A, 94A og 94B. The board of the Vedapark Association have agreed to recommend two house from the firm Stugtilverkningen i Tommelilla. We believe that a grass roof will look very fine on this cottage.

At the moment we have interest for building 4 houses. - Later, they may be extended with e.g. a glass veranda. It is our intention to adjust the house dimensions etc. to Vastu principles (MSV), and it will be arranged in cooperation with the architects and the entrepreneur. Also building permissions have to be obtained from the municipality.

Our own small effort

We ourselves have to prepare the ground and a pole foundation or similar. This can be done during the autumn and spring next year at some common weekend arrangements - including picknit and socialising.

To summarise:
Now you can have your own small retreat, to be used e.g. over a weekend to enjoy the silence of nature.

The standard house kit with isolation will cost 48500 SEK. Purchasing several uniform houses in one order will mean a lower price, however, there will be expenses for painting etc. We will have final offer when we know how many houses to order.

If you want to join, are entusiastic and willing to make and extra effort, but lack some of the cash, then the Association may offer a minor loan over 5 years with an interest rate which just covers inflation.

Donations
Vedapark Ideal Association accepts donations with gratitude, in order to realise the vision of a center for development of consciousness, health and bliss. Generous sponsors, who have more than they need themselves, can peruse on our web, what we want to do.

It is written in the association rules that gifts will be used according to the donors wish - that might be for the meditation hall and the cafe which will be in the ownership of the association. Furthermore we want to establish an advisory mentor group. Please contact Gunnar Kastbjerg about this.

We have the privilege and challenge to live in a time, where very decisive adaptations take place on the planet Earth, to a more elevated human level (apparently the years around famous 2012). Hence it is important to create power centers, to keep balance in 'chaos'. He/she who takes co-responsibility for this will benefit himself and our decendants, for we can clearly see disorder building up e.g. in the world economy. Now, it is a good disposition to have a retreat in the countryside.

The cafe, the meditation hall and the small 'back to Nature' retreat houses

The houses are designed in the same basic style as the private homes.

Cafe
The North elevation has big windows in order to provide a panorama view over the wetland below. From the cafe you can enter the glasshouse and also the veranda outside. All according to your preference and the weather.

The entrance is from the East and here you have two toilets and a locker room. To the north you may exit to the terrace outside where one can sit and meditate on warm days. Also with big windows facing the wetland to the North. Like that... you will have a nice impression in the mind before and after your research in consciousness.

Retreat houses
These 15 sqm houses are meant to be placed on the quitest spots in Vedapark. Here course participants and retreat guests can stay for short or even longer periods and have a 'back to nature' experience. The house will as a main rule have toilet and shower and very simple facility for cooking, as one is supposed to have meals in the cafe.

East elevation

Before and during construction we will request consultation from Maharishi Vastu Architects. They have the most comprehensive program as to design, ceremonials and timing of the whole process. Furthermore their houses have proved to have a protective zone around them, eg. if natural calamities hit the area. (You may request a document from us with examples).

The Vedapark Masterplan

The architects 'Fortune Creating Homes Ltd.' in Holland have designed this Masterplan for us:

Please note the following points:

The small green square in the center is called the Brahmastan, it can become a playing ground for children and a meeting place for adults, at the moment there is a small pond there as well
Here we have also placed a small school or kindergarten
The lake/wetland to the North is only a principled sketch; the final shape may differ. We also have another design where the lake is divided in two, with the small brook flowing between. A third alternative is to have a considerable bigger wetland, which will also cover an area to the East outside of Vedapark. The size of the wetland will then vary with the water flow according to the season. The establishment of the lake/wetland as soon as possible, has very high priority
The cafe will have a beautiful view over the lake. Here it will be possible to join common meals every day
Therefore the individual homes should only need a small kitchenette, where you can prepare tea and a meal occasionally. It is good to Be together and eat together
The meditation halls are in the North East, which is the corner of the whole area that has the most powerful spiritual influence. - There will be big windows to the north, so when you open your eyes, you will glance an attractive lake and nature.
In the NE corner you also notice some quite small houses. They are for guests who may be are on retreat. More of such small dwellings may be built on other lots as well (are not shown in the plan)
The office/reception will be noticed immediately when visitors enter Vedapark from the East
There is a field for gardening east of the building sites, and a much larger field south of the main street going East-West (most of it is not covered by the map). The streets are all gravel streets, so no 'artificial' asphalt
We do hear the thoughts of some people: 'Oh, the houses are placed in 3 almost straight lines, they should be placed more, just here and there, that is more natural'? But we say 'Not so'. In Vaastu you apply symmetric designs, because at the deepest level of creation, there nature is symmetric, in perfect order and eternal. And the Masterplan and your house are meant to bring you back to your source deep within...There is an analogy to visualize: If you see a road or path winding through the landscape, it is certainly attractive. But there is a special attraction of another kind: When you walk along a straight avenue, in the countryside, with big trees on both sides, leading to the entrance of a beautiful mansion, this awakens a more transcendental experience.

Our final remark. The Masterplan is made of the most experienced Vastu architects in the western world. So we think we are in good hands.

Impressions from five famous eco-spiritual communities

Our visits to several eco communities have proved to be much more important to us than expected. It is really valuable to come and see by yourself how the surroundings look and experience what is taking place. We have made more visits than planned (according to our EU Leader application), as we have travelled to several places in India, too:

Conclusions

From our experiences and observations we can learn following important guidelines to be used in Vedapark. It is important that:

There is a fundamental world view which the inhabitants can endorse, and that these values are stable and timeless. Vedapark’s world view is based on the humanistic science of the Veda which is considered to be most ancient, complete and comprehensive knowledge of life that exists
There are arrangements and ceremonies to enrich life
There is innovation concerning the interaction between nature and human technology
There is a distinctive feature which we are known for and which attracts people and attention: our characteristic feature is the Vastu architecture
There is a big and beautiful garden based on permaculture and Vedic Organic Agriculture
There is a very silent and comfortable atmosphere
There is absence of electronic smog from mobile phones and electrical appliances
There is a minimum need for internal transportation by car
There are as few rules as possible
There is a relatively fast construction of the whole village with a high quality standard, to avoid the impression of a building site for years
There is full understanding of financial conditions when leaving the village, considering the interest of the individual as well as the continuation and growth of the village. This point has proved to be a common issue of conflict
There is a limited increase in the price of houses to avoid debt for newcomers. A home is considered a human right and not an object of speculation:
Vedapark has come to the conclusion that it is best that the inhabitants build on a plot which is rented on a long term basis (say 100 years) or just rent the home. Long term rent of the plot has the advantage that it place a self regulating ceiling over price increases of the house
In some cases one can buy the building site when Vastu is followed when constructing the house
By sale of the house Vedapark should have an option on the house
There is a close cooperation with the nearby communities and international contacts as well
There are facilities in two other places on the planet in a warmer climate
There is a simple way of doing things, e.g. in connection with the routines around the meals that is: the preparation, serving and dishwashing
There is a possibility and habit of eating together every day

We have visited following holistic communities: Damanhur, Sieben Linden, Friland, Auroville and Sri Vast Foundation. For each of them we have noted strengths and weaknesses. Only the fantasy is the limit, Damanhur

Damanhur is a good example of how interesting life can be when we think and work together. In this eco-spiritual community north of Turin they realize 'impossible dreams'. Among other things they have a group of houses in the tree tops, built on long poles. Up there you have walkways between the about 10 houses. One of the children is born here. If someone likes the idea to live among the top of the trees, just get started, plot number 94 is good for the purpose.

Also in Damanhur they demonstrate the 'singing of the plants', they are famous for that.
The electrical impulses in the plant are transformed to sound which is lead to the loudspeakers. It can sound like various instruments and appears beautiful and melodic. We also heard two plants 'sing' together.

Since august 2010 members of the Vedapark association have been on study visits to Italy, as mentioned, and also to Sieben Linden in Germany and Friland in Denmark. The visits were supported by the EU leader program. Last, but not least in India, visiting several ashrams and eco-communities (Auroville). We have really leaned something.

What these communities have in common is that they are active and follow their dreams. It would be bad if one, 90 years old, should look back at life as an 'untested menu card'. What we do now, where we live now: will that bring us where we want to be in 10 years time. If not.... well, we guess it is time to get started.

Architect explains, why Vedapark is a really fine place according to Vastu

We have received this article from Architect Peter Gamborg who has visited Vedapark. He is educated at the University of Architecture in Copenhagen.

The Vedapark area is highly interesting, because it is a piece of unspoiled nature, and because it is in accordance with two of the fundamental principles of Vastu shastra.

Vastu teaches that the 5 elements are connected to the cardinal points. Thus the water element is placed in Northeast, the fire element in Southeast, eart element in Southwest, wind element in Northeast and finally the ether element in the midle.

According to Vastu Shastra there are two main sources of life energy here on the Earth. One is the electro-magnetic currents which move from north to south on the surface of the Earth. The other is the early sunlight which is considered to be the most life giving. This source of life energy is not constant, because the quality of the sun is changing as it is moving over the sky.

From nature Vedapark is created so that there is water in the north-eastern direction and hills to the South. The wetland in the Northeast will become a large lake in the future which will secure that life energy from the North will flow into the area, while the hills to the South will preserve the energy. This is an ideal situation, and is what is aimed at when we are planning according to Vastu.

A holistic village for self-sustainable cosmopolites

It is a deep wish of many people:

To be able to travel and live in a warmer climate part of the year during Scandinavia’s cold season.
To move to the countryside while maintaining a base in the city such as a shared apartment
To have a high degree of self-sufficiency with food for the body and soul etc. in the present risky times

Cosmopolitan life

I have worked in several Balkan countries and to establish a sister village there is an option when considering southern Europe. Prices are still low. In Monte Negro for instance, there is an absolutely beautiful, huge lake near the ocean and also near the capital. Here they say that you can go skiing in the mountains during the morning and go swimming in the ocean in the afternoon. It is a small country, but really beautiful.

As to have a good warm place during wintertime, Goa in India comes to my mind. The climate is balanced, and there is relatively easy access to other parts of India. That country is incredible, and you have a concentration of big souls and masters as nowhere else on this planet. You are nearer the divine so to say. India is just so different. For Vedapark inhabitant to have a settlement in Goa would be a dream.

A base in the city

Many expressed a wish to live in the heart of nature in the countryside, but still, from time to time, stay in the nearby city. It appears good to have the best of both worlds.

In the longer term it is an option to buy common houses in cities like Malmo, Copenhagen and perhaps Berlin. Those interested in our project find that highly interesting. And add to this: the purchase of a big summerhouse and boat, e.g. in nearby Österlen. In this way Vedapark can become an entry to a life of freedom for you. But it assumes a group which can cooperate on a sharing basis, share is the keyword.

Self sustainable

Ideally people like the village to be self-sufficient with food, energy, job and finance, so that one may stay in nature’s harmony every day. Eco-villages around the globe have a high degree of sustainability in many of these spheres, but usually not in all of them. In our village we have 40HA of land including the common land and it should be possible to buy more over time as a basis for innovative activities.

Further it is paramount to have a retreat and course facility which will be run by Vedapark's educators, with great souls from outside and abroad to come and share their wisdom. This will give vibrant life to the community. Otherwise it may easily turn into a sleepy place – great things must happen there, great beings should develop there in the heart of nature in the heart of Scania and Scandinavia.

Is it realistic?

Actually, in entrepreneurship there is a saying. It goes like this: ‘It is just as easy to make big projects as small ones’ – for one thing the big ones attract more interest, there is more inspiration, and who wants to be small?

Quotes from the Upanishads on Vaastu

These Veda scriptures of old clearly point out the importance of living in Vaastu structures. They basically state that we can only realise our highest wishes in life if we live in a house built according to natural law. It means that the energy field of the house must connect us to nature and cosmos - and not cut of that link:

Shilpa Vidya Rahasyopanishad states:

Sukta 34:

Men become the knower’s of supreme Existence, only through Shilpa (Vaastu).

Sukta 41:

‘All the beings of the world live with happiness through the harmonious creations of Shilpa (Vaastu).
They attain the perfect beatific (lyksalig) state by these creations of Shilpa.
They become endowed with real eyes through the creations of Shilpa…..
By the creations of Shilpa there occurs perfect fulfillment and everlasting bliss.
Those aspiring for liberation attain final beatitude (lyksalighed) only through the creations of Shilpa’.

Rig Veda, (7 mandala, vastoshpati sukta, rishi Vasishta) poetically describes how natural law protects the Vaastu house: ‘be to us an excellent abode, the non-inflictor of disease...be our preserver and augmenter of our wealth… may we be possessed of a comfortable, delightful opulent abode … protect our wealth whether in possession or expectation, and do you ever cherish us with blessings… protector of the dwelling remover of disease… be to us a friend the granter of happiness.

Vasishta mentioned above is an ancient rishi; he was the teacher of king Ram who was much loved by his father, but he had to live in the forests with his brother Laksman and wife Site, because of the intrigues of the stepmother. There is a cave a little north of Rishikesh called Vasishta cave. I never experienced such ‘thick’ silence as in this cave. It was really incredible.

Principles for social harmony and Vaastu buildings

Conflict prevention
One person told us he had visited all eco villages in Sweden. They had one point in common: they all had social conflicts! You see the same historical pattern if you look at websites for other countries. So may be the level of wisdom in the group was too low, or the energies of the houses were distorted because they were not built according to vaastu principles.

Other things can be done to prevent and solve conflicts:

1) The tribal structure should be used as a model for the social life. It is created by nature to be used to absorb and solve conflicts. It is polycentric as described in previous articles with many crosscutting associations or groups, where people decide on the day to day matters they are engaged in, such as gardening or creating the lake or running the café or their own business.

There can be 4 main groups of activities in the holistic village:
1. education to run the retreat or course center and healing activities etc.
2. administration to take care of the contact to local and national authorities
3. businesss and art
4. gardening and agriculture

2) There should be an intelligent mixture of democracy and non-demococracy. The word democracy is value-laden; many react with a Halleluja hearing it. In politics it is a way of voting and counting, Plato concluded that democracy was only a medium form. However, it is good without discussion when taken as participative leadership.

3) Some basic principles should not be for discussion. They are stated on the website, such as the architecture is Vaastu, they are accepted when you join the project. Long discussions in plenary on small issues is a vaste to time, but it was seen often. Remember, with a sense of humor: little men, long meetings (I learned that one from a physically big woman)

And also remember: Little women, many rules. That one came to my mind, after being held back in the passport control by a woman in Bulgaria, because a small insignificant stamp was lacking in my pasport. Also, there should be a catchphrase for both genders.

4) It is good to use the name Holistic or spiritual village as it signals a preference: It will be fine to attract many people with compassion, social competence, maturity and success in some area of life. What I have seen is: If there are too many idealists in one place, you easily run into problems.

Square or round house
There is a common idea among ecological builders and pioneer that it good to make round houses, probably inspired by the tipi tent. When I raised this issue at the alternative climate conference in Copenhagen in December: one ‘expert’ smartly remarked: ‘you cannot really place anything in the corners, they are of no use - and the VEDA is so old, therefore those principles are not useful to day’. But we say ‘not so’: Round houses are not a principle in Vaastu, because:

The energy waves spreading from the center becomes more concentrated in the corners, so they are actually most important
The unit of energy at the subtle, quantum field is not a circle but a square or cube; this should be supported by physics. The subtle turns into the gross, so the basic structure on the surface is also a square (needs some explanation which will happen at the meetings)
The VEDAS are old, but are still valid, because they are natural law, cognized by the rishis and later written in books (also needs more clarification.) Natural law does not change!

We all have 3 houses
Those who have a house in reality have three houses.

You have the one you live in with the priorities or loans: that is the visible house. People mostly like their house, but normally still something is lacking, there is some dissatisfaction. There may still be a longing for the dream house.

The lack of total fulfillment in the house is due to the invisible house you live in. Your house may look very fine and luxurious, but still the invisible energy that it creates and which creeps into you, may not be good at all. Experts say it is because of the materials, the sick house syndrome. Yes, but it is more than that, is due to the whole construction which is not aligned to natural law.

The third house is our natural house which respects natural law; this is the house we should dream about, or rather act on building. For one thing, the house should be aligned to the corners of the earth.

The two conditions for living life fully

After all the progress we have made in social science, economy and technology, it is strange that in our time, we have even more problems than before.

However, if we examine the wisdom in the old scriptures, they mention two things most important to become a fully developed human being, without a grain of misery:

1. You must be surrounded by wise people
2. You must live and work in buildings that resonate with the natural law which is the basis of creation.

Is it a realistic dream to believe that we can become 100% happy (and we have that dream) if these two conditions are not fulfilled?

According to the Veda the answer is no. But what actually is the VEDA. Many scientist and artists who have dived into the Vedic wisdom, hold it to be the highest body of knowledge of mankind.

We will examine why and also look deeper into the two conditions for creating the best life possible. What action must we take ourselves? This is one theme of the next few Monday and Thursday meetings.

Living in a Vaastu home will increase your health and wealth

I am just back from incredible India from a 3 month study and journey with so many beautiful experiences - and I have some pictures of beautifully decorated temples and buildings for our inspiration.

The status and progress of The Holistic Village in the heart of Skåne (Scania) since our last info is like this. I met Steen Möller at the alternative Climate Conference in Copenhagen and he is interested in assisting us with his expertise in eco-building and many other natural solutions. He is well known in Denmark for his initiative in creating the EcoVillage Friland at the 'nose' of Jutland, which has been transmitted in several TV programs. At the conference there were participants from eco villages and local communities from all over the world. A lot of things are going on in this field.

What is interesting is that the assistance of Steen and other experts can be financed by EU funds earmarked for village development. This opportunity is most possible if several people start building their houses in a coordinated manner so that they can be present for instructions.

Representatives from our Vedapark Association have met with the mayor of Hörby who was very supportive to our project – so we have the back-up of the local authorities which is important. Over the last couple of years we have also had several meetings with municipality officials.

In India I visited the foremost family of Vaastu architects in Chennai (Madras) and learned some basics on dimensioning and orientation of houses. This family have had a primary role in restoring the ancient wisdom of Sthapatya Veda (Vaastu). The head and grandfather of the family introduced his research on Vaastu to the late Maharishi, who was the first to bring the wisdom to the West.

It appears that most people to not quite understand the importance of Vedic architecture, but it seems well documented from cases that a house with an optimal energy field really do provide better health, more wealth, better family relations and quality of life. A non-vaastu house and its distorted energy deny us these qualities. To give an example: a great master was asked if it was important to move into a Vaastu house. He said: consider it as if your old house is on fire, this much it matters! So it is not just a fixed idea that we have caught.

In the near future I will go to Sieben Linden (between Berlin, Hamburg and Hannover) and Damanhur (north of Torino) to learn more from them on social structures etc, and also seek cooperation and support to establish our village in the hearth of Scandinavia. Later this summer a visit to Findhorn I planned.

If you want to have influence on the concept of Gammalstorp it is time to participate. Now it is time to start the concrete planning and work for building the first houses – an active inner circle of a few people should start functioning.

A Vaastu house is characterized by the facade facing East or North, and that the rooms are placed while considering the energy of the sun over the day. Further more the house and the single rooms have specific dimensions, so that positive energies are enforced while negative frequencies are eliminated. It is a question of acoustics in a broad sense, that is not just the acoustics of sound.

To keep these rules does not place any limitations on the esthetic impression. A Vaastu house can be built i classic as well as modern style, or any other style.

Facace design på 40 kvm sommerhus

Flere af landsbyens venner har udtrykt et ønske om at kunne bygge et mindre sommerhus i Gammalstorp og senere eventuelt følge op med et større hus.

På hver grund (tomt) kan der bygges 3 huse på henholdsvis 100, 40 og 15 kvm. Dertil kommer ca. 60 kvm på loftsetagen (vinden) i 100kvm huset. Altså ialt 215 kvm.

Vi har nu fået facade-designs på et 40 kvm hus. Forslag til rum-placeringen er på vej, og vi forventer at kunne have en prisoverslag fra et lokalt byggefirma inden så længe.

Dette hus er lavet af en Maharishi Sthapatya Veda (MSV) arkiktekt, som efter min opfattelse har en ganske omfattende sevice omkring byggeriet med følgende punkter:

Det er lavet med norsk teknologi (leveret fra Lithaun af en dansk bygmester) med en vægtykkelse på 24 cm. Yderst er der 7 cm bjælker, så 15 cm isolering og inderst 2 cm bjælker. Man kan også have 7 cm bjælker indvendig mod en merpris. Skillevæggene er 7 cm tykke.

Prisen gælder for et nøglefærdigt hus, hvor alt arbejde udføres af håndværkere. Kontakt os for flere oplysninger.

Prisen kan bringes betydeligt ned ved eget arbejde og samarbejde omkring f.eks. fundament og installation af el og vand. Hvis flere er interesserede i at købe som en gruppe, kan også prisen på levering og opstilling af huset sikkert forhandles en hel del lavere.
